Luxury Indian Wedding Planning in Italy: Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose an Indian wedding planner in Italy?
Because an Indian wedding in Italy asks for far more than a beautiful venue. It is several days of ceremonies, feasting, music and family, brought to life in a country with its own customs, suppliers and rhythm.
We have been planning Indian weddings in Italy for over a decade, and we were the first agency here to specialise in them. In that time we have planned more Indian weddings in Italy than any other agency, building the venue relationships and depth of knowledge that only years of these celebrations can give.
We coordinate every part of your celebration: guest accommodation, Indian catering, décor, entertainment, production, transport and the ceremonies themselves. The result is unmistakably Indian, with Italy as its setting.

Do you plan Hindu, Sikh and South Indian weddings?
Yes. We plan Hindu, Sikh, South Indian and multicultural Indian weddings throughout Italy.
Each celebration is shaped around your family's traditions, rituals, cuisine and customs. A Mandap ceremony, an Anand Karaj, Haldi, Mehndi, Sangeet, a Baraat, or two cultures joined over one weekend: we build every detail around the traditions you bring.

How much does an Indian wedding in Italy cost?
The investment depends on your guest count, destination, venue, accommodation, décor, entertainment and the number of events.
As a guide, a luxury Indian destination wedding in Italy begins at around €150,000 depending on guest count and number of events. Most of the celebrations we plan fall between €200,000 and over €500,000, according to their scope.

Where are the best places in Italy for an Indian wedding?
Tuscany is where we begin for most Indian weddings. It holds Italy's widest choice of villas, castles, borghi and private estates, and it works beautifully in two ways. Some estates can host the entire weekend, with many or all of your guests staying on site. Other couples prefer a different setting for each day: a Renaissance palazzo rooftop or a city garden in Florence for the Sangeet, then a villa or castle for the Mandap ceremony and reception.
Tuscany also has Italy's most experienced Indian caterers, and many of its venues already know Indian weddings well. Lake Como is another wonderful choice, while Sicily, Puglia and Rome each offer their own possibilities, depending on your guest count and vision.
On the Amalfi Coast, most venues are devoted to regional Italian cooking, and a select few welcome Indian catering directly. Wherever a venue allows it, we bring experienced Indian chefs and catering teams to you, anywhere in Italy.

Can all of our guests stay at the same venue?
Often, yes. Tuscany in particular has private estates and borghi able to accommodate a large number of guests on site, and having everyone together turns the weekend into one long, unhurried celebration.
When more rooms are needed, or when you choose a different venue for each event, we arrange nearby properties and guest transport so everyone arrives where they need to be, relaxed and on time.

Can we have the sacred fire for our Mandap ceremony?
Yes. The Agni is at the heart of the Hindu ceremony, and the venues we recommend for Indian weddings welcome it. The fire is lit in a traditional havan kund, prepared together with your Pandit and the venue, so the ritual unfolds exactly as it should.
Is an Indian wedding in Italy legally recognized?
Most of our couples complete the legal formalities at home, before or after the wedding, and celebrate their religious ceremony in Italy with every ritual intact. It keeps the paperwork simple and leaves your days in Italy entirely for the celebration. If you would prefer to marry legally in Italy, a civil ceremony is also possible, and we guide you through the documents your nationality requires.
Can the groom arrive on horseback for the Baraat?
Yes. The Baraat is one of the most joyful moments of the weekend, and we arrange a beautifully dressed horse for the groom at venues that welcome one, with Dhol players leading the procession through the gardens or along a cypress-lined avenue. A vintage car makes an equally memorable arrival for couples who prefer it.
Can we hold an Anand Karaj in Italy?
Yes. Italy is home to a large Sikh community and a number of Gurdwaras, and we plan the Anand Karaj with the reverence it requires, working with a Granthi and in keeping with Sikh maryada. The Sikh community requires that the ceremony be held in a Gurdwara not at the venue itself.
How late can the Sangeet and Reception continue?
Well into the night in regions such as Tuscany. Each region and venue in Italy sets its own hours for music outdoors usually at least until midnight after which the celebration moves inside, to a ballroom, a vaulted cellar or a lounge, and carries on.
Can our guests from India get help with their visas?
Guests travelling on an Indian passport, wherever they live, need a Schengen short-stay visa to attend a wedding in Italy. Applications can be submitted up to six months before travel, and we encourage guests to apply as early as that allows, as appointments fill quickly in wedding season. We provide invitation letters if needed.
How many guests can an Indian wedding in Italy accommodate?
Italy welcomes Indian weddings of every size, from intimate gatherings to celebrations of several hundred guests. Larger guest counts shape the choice of destination, and Tuscany and Lake Como offer venues and accommodation on the scale these celebrations need. Some venues can host events for 1000 guests, others can sleep up to 300.
When is the best time of year for an Indian wedding in Italy?
Late spring and early autumn. May, June, September and early October bring warm days, long golden evenings and temperatures comfortable for elders and children alike. July and August are hotter, which suits evening events and venues with shaded gardens and pools. The most sought-after dates are reserved well ahead, so an early start gives you the widest choice.
Which airports are closest to the wedding destinations?
Most long-haul flights from India and North America arrive into Rome or Milan, and each destination is within easy reach:
- Tuscany: Florence and Pisa, with Rome Fiumicino connected to Florence by high-speed train
- Lake Como: Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate and Bergamo
- Rome: Fiumicino and Ciampino
- Sicily: Catania and Palermo
- Puglia: Bari and Brindisi
- Amalfi Coast: Naples

Do you plan Mehndi, Haldi, Sangeet and Reception events?
Yes. We plan and coordinate every event around your wedding: the Welcome Dinner, Mehndi, Haldi, Sangeet, Baraat, the Mandap Ceremony, the Reception and the Farewell Brunch. Timelines, logistics, suppliers, production and your guests' experience are all in our hands, from the first welcome to the final farewell.
Can you arrange Pandits, Dhol players and Indian entertainment?
Yes. We source experienced Pandits, Dhol players, Indian DJs, live musicians, Mehndi artists, bridal beauty teams, dancers, lighting, staging, fireworks and entertainment specialists who work regularly on Indian weddings in Italy. We recommend the people best suited to your traditions and style.
Can you plan our wedding if we live abroad?
Yes. Most of our couples live outside Italy, particularly in the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe.
Our own planning platform keeps your budget, timelines, venue proposals, design concepts, guest information and documents together in one place, so you can see exactly where everything stands from anywhere in the world. With regular video meetings alongside it, planning from abroad feels calm and well organized from the very beginning.

Do you offer wedding packages?
No. Every wedding we plan is bespoke. The caliber of our Indian events would not fit into a package.
Rather than fixed packages, we prepare a proposal around your guest count, traditions, destination, accommodation and vision, so the celebration is built from the ground up around what matters most to you.

How does DIW's fee structure work?
DIW charges a planning fee for our services. Like virtually every established destination wedding planner in Italy, we also have referral agreements with many venues and selected vendors as part of the industry's standard commercial structure.
These referral fees are paid directly by the venue or vendor and compensate us for the work we do liaising and coordinating on their behalf.
Our recommendations are based on what best serves your wedding — style, logistics, guest experience, quality, and overall value.

Do you negotiate with venues and vendors?
Whenever possible, yes. For larger and multi-day celebrations, we can often secure courtesy discounts from venues and suppliers when several services are booked together. Looking after your investment is part of our work from the first proposal to the final invoice.
